My Take
I found this series dark, with lots of ick factor in the monsters. There’s more than one set of villains. For a nice change, one set of villains (the Jure’lia) were not so much cruel as just had a completely different mindset. A hive mind / shared consciousness and memory rather than individual members. The characters were likeable and the plot had some nice twists and surprises. The world built felt unique. Definitely didn’t feel like I was reading yet another working of some trope or another. Other than the ewww factor — which added to the atmosphere — it was a very enjoyable if emotional read and I’ll look for more by this author.
