Salt & Broom

It’s been years since I read the original Jane Eyre. I don’t recall liking it that much. I liked this retelling of the story and the introduction of witchcraft and fairies.

The Cleaving

I like new takes on Arthurian legend. I liked the focus here on the female characters rather than the male.

Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes

This series — one of my favorites — has been going on for 30 years. And I’ve been reading it for almost that long. Cerebral, humorous, just enough action.

Time Police

I wasn’t sure I would like these as much as The Chronicles of St Mary’s, but I did. It’s a different organization and a different cast of characters (with some crossover) and all the bits I liked are here.

Duncan Kincaid & Gemma James

This is one of my favorite mystery series set in Britain. Like another favorite, it’s by an American author. It nicely mixes the personal lives of primary and secondary characters with the mystery at hand, and gives a good sense of place.

Inspector Lynley

I have always loved this series. They’re mysteries, yes, but rich in detail and human interactions and not something you can or should rush through.
